National
Numismatic Collection (NNC) of the Smithsonian Institution
NNC is one of the largest numismatic collections in the world. Located
in the National Museum of American History, the NNC includes approximately one
million objects--more than 400,000 coins and some 550,000 pieces of paper
money. NNC’s web site has several virtual exhibitions and has an
extensive FAQ, that includes a list of basic references on coins, paper
money, medals, and tokens. Each heading also includes a list of links to
sites with answers to commonly asked questions and has answers to some of
the most common questions received by the NNC. Finally the site has a fine
links page.
